There’s no denying it – working remotely is the new normal.

When looking into the actual change, Microsoft’s latest Work Trend Index survey found that vast majority of executives do consider redesigning current offices to enable hybrid work. Aka the makeshift “home office” (= kitchen table) from this past year might become a more permanent feature. And offices needed when and where they play a role in work, teamwork and management of all this.

Chart from the research

The Work Trend Index survey was conducted by an independent research firm, Edelman Data x Intelligence, among 31,092 full-time employed or self-employed workers across 31 markets between January 12, 2021 to January 25, 2021
The change was fast – in Finland where I live – it was reported that roughly 60% of specialists moved their work from the company office to remote office space, that being usually home.

With many software development teams, the remote working has been a standard for years. Working in an agile mode with sprints also supports the working alone, then getting together, checking what has been achieved, what happens next and going back to one’s own drawing board. The work also requires concentration where remote working is an asset. It is also a fact, that the required skills might be hard to find in a timely manner and with a reasonable cost for the company.

One way to solve this problem is to use companies, who come to rescue when the need is there. They can also be dismissed, or the headcount increased fast, when the need has changed.

We at KIBIT have extensive experience from working with multi-national and -locational projects, visiting the HQ or the customer’s home site only when needed. And yet getting the work done as expected. With a reasonable cost.
