Introduction

One of Hungary's leading banks, embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to implement one of the first video banking solutions in the country. This innovative project aimed to revolutionize customer interactions by enabling new users to verify their identities remotely and complete essential banking operations such as onboarding and money transfers.

The application was built using advanced software components, including Kurento and Asterisk, to provide seamless video and voice communication, functioning similarly to a call center. The project placed a strong emphasis on reliability, user experience, and scalability, setting a new benchmark for digital banking solutions in Hungary.

The Challenge & Solution

Feasibility Proof of Concept (POC):
The initial challenge was to validate the feasibility of integrating Kurento and Asterisk for video and voice functionality. Successful execution required designing a robust proof of concept to demonstrate the technical viability.

Improving Reliability of Asterisk Integration:

  • Challenge: Ensuring smooth communication even with poor connections.

  • Solutions:

    • Conducted extensive software load testing to simulate high traffic scenarios.

    • Fine-tuned connection handling for the load balancer and Tomcat servers to optimize performance under variable conditions.

Maintaining User Experience During Backend-Frontend Integration:

  • Challenge: Anticipating and managing errors during complex user processes while preserving an intuitive user experience.

  • Solutions:

    • Incorporated robust error-handling mechanisms for all potential scenarios.

    • Designed processes to allow users to seamlessly continue from where they left off after disruptions.

Auditing and Debugging Capabilities:

  • Challenge: Ensuring traceability and accountability of user actions during video calls.

  • Solutions:

    • Developed a detailed event logging system to capture every significant step during user interactions.

    • Enabled comprehensive auditing and debugging tools to assist in troubleshooting and performance monitoring.

The Results

The collaboration between the two companies resulted in a state-of-the-art video banking solution, enhancing the Bank’s customer communication and onboarding capabilities. The project exemplified the successful integration of diverse roles within the team, demonstrating the value of agile methodologies in fostering innovation.

The solution not only enabled smoother client communication but also strengthened the Bank’s ability to attract and onboard more customers, reinforcing its position as a leader in digital banking in Hungary.
