In 2013, the world’s leading budget airline launched a project to improve its customer portal and reservation system, recognizing the importance of a smooth user experience in a competitive industry. This case study looks at the challenges the team faced, the strategies they used, and the results they achieved during the testing phase of the project.

The Story

For about a year, a dedicated team of four Test Engineers took on the task of testing the company’s new customer portal and reservation system. The project covered a wide range of features and functions, all aimed at ensuring a smooth and user-friendly experience for passengers.

The Challenge

The testing team faced several key challenges during the project. One major hurdle was managing feature toggling between the old and new systems, which called for careful testing to make sure users experienced a smooth transition without disrupting ongoing operations. Rolling out the new portal also brought logistical issues that required thorough testing to catch and address any problems before launch.

The Results

Despite the challenges, the testing team managed to work through them and deliver solid results. They used a mix of automated and manual testing, relying on technologies like .NET and tools such as Selenium/WebDriver, SpecFlow, TeamCity, and HP QC to make sure the new reservation system was reliable and robust. The team followed Agile practices with a focus on Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), which helped them collaborate effectively and speed up the testing process.
